The Reef Tanks Featured TankJoefish's 120 Gallon Reef
IntroductionThanks for the honor of TOTM. With all the beautiful tanks I have seen here on TRT, I am extremely happy you consider mine to be one of them. I also need to publicly thank Spanky (Jerel), without his help and expertise I wouldn't even be in the hobby any more.I set this tank up as SPS only, because I found it easier to meet the needs of one type of coral then mixing them.
SetupTank: 120 gallon (48"x24"x24") AGA Reef Ready in wall SPS tank. The Bottom is covered with Star Board and no sand. Sump: A locally custom made acrylic sump which holds 30 gallons. Skimmer: A modified MRC MR-2 with a Gen-X PCX -55 pump. Calcium Reactor: A MRC CR-6 with Dual chambers.
Water circulation: GEN-X PCX -55 return pump. That feeds a SQWD and on the ends are 2 Penductors. In the tank is 2 -6100Tunze Streams with a multi controller. Lighting: 2-250 w DE Megachrome marines in SLS III Pendants, Driven by Ice Cap ballasts. They run 9 hours a day. UV sterilizer: 40 W aqua with the wiper blade. Additives: ESV- Magnesium Inhabitants:
Corals: Acropora, Porites, Pocilloporidae and some hitch hiker mushrooms. I try not to ID corals because there are to many closely related to be sure. That's why I cringe when someone asks me what species is that one. Other Inverts:
Fish:
Feeding: I feed the fish only and they get Hikari frozen Mysis , Brine and Seaweed Selects.
How I got started:I got into this hobby by being bored of fresh water fish and walking into the LFS and asking how to set up a tank for marine fish, the clerk asked will I be putting corals in there too? Three and a half years later, and now I call it a "Reef tank" with fish in it.I will be making changes in my tank in the near future . I will share them with you and I hope you all like them as much as I think I will . Once again thank you for the honor, Joe (Joefish)
Please stop in and congratulate Joefish about his tank and discuss his tank with other TRT members on this thread.
