Introduction

Thanks for the honor of TOTM. With all the beautiful tanks I have seen here on TRT, I am extremely happy you consider mine to be one of them. I also need to publicly thank Spanky (Jerel), without his help and expertise I wouldn't even be in the hobby any more.
I set this tank up as SPS only, because I found it easier to meet the needs of one type of coral then mixing them.

Various Acroporas

Setup

Tank: 120 gallon (48"x24"x24") AGA Reef Ready in wall SPS tank. The Bottom is covered with Star Board and no sand.

Sump: A locally custom made acrylic sump which holds 30 gallons.

Skimmer: A modified MRC MR-2 with a Gen-X PCX -55 pump.

Calcium Reactor: A MRC CR-6 with Dual chambers.

Sump

Water circulation: GEN-X PCX -55 return pump. That feeds a SQWD and on the ends are 2 Penductors. In the tank is 2 -6100Tunze Streams with a multi controller.

Lighting: 2-250 w DE Megachrome marines in SLS III Pendants, Driven by Ice Cap ballasts. They run 9 hours a day.
Now I have 3 110w URL VHO super actincs driven by an Ice Cap 430 ballast. These run 12 hours a day. They were just switched from 2 -54 W T-5 .03 actinics this week, Driven by the same 430 ballast.

UV sterilizer: 40 W aqua with the wiper blade.

Additives: ESV- Magnesium
ESV-Stontium
ESV 2 part B-Ionic

Tricolour Acropora

Corals: Acropora, Porites, Pocilloporidae and some hitch hiker mushrooms. I try not to ID corals because there are to many closely related to be sure. That's why I cringe when someone asks me what species is that one.

Other Inverts:

  • Cerith snails
  • Astrea snails
  • 1-cleaner shrimp
  • 3-Holothutia Cucumbers
  • 2-Globe Urchins
  • 1- long spine urchin
  • 1- Sally Lightfoot
  • some serpent and brittle stars

Blue Tang

Fish:

  • Copperbanded Butterflyfish
  • Flame Angel
  • Orchid Dottyback
  • Fox Face
  • Neon Goby
  • Fathead Anthias
  • Algae Blenny
  • Hippo Tang
  • 2 Ocellaris clowns


Feeding: I feed the fish only and they get Hikari frozen Mysis , Brine and Seaweed Selects.

How I got started:

I got into this hobby by being bored of fresh water fish and walking into the LFS and asking how to set up a tank for marine fish, the clerk asked will I be putting corals in there too? Three and a half years later, and now I call it a "Reef tank" with fish in it.
I will be making changes in my tank in the near future . I will share them with you and I hope you all like them as much as I think I will .
