I currently have two camel back shrimp in my reef tank. when I got them 4 months ago no one told me that they would possibly eat my corals. Now come to find out that they are known to munch at them. I haven't had any problems with them eating anything yet, but I have only had Polops and one mushroom. I just bought some brown xenia, white xenia, and some leathers. Does anyone have experience with Camel backs??? or have any now???? if I need to get rid of them, what kind of trap do I need to make?

We "accidentally" got a camel shortly after we got into this hobby. (It was supposed to be a pepp...) Anyway, I have found that most shrimp are pretty greedy, and not usually too bright. You may be able to catch him by putting some food (the GOOD stuff - like cocktail shrimp or something meaty) in a net and waiting for it to go for it. Yep, they're little cannibals. But it worked for me.

The problem is that if you don't catch him the first time, he might wise up to it a second time. But it's a thought.

HTH,
Danielle

PS - our camel muched some polyps, but we didn't have any other corals for him to damage at the time, so I don't know what else it would have done.

Randy, way back when I moved my 29 to a 55wide I kept my camel shrimp:(. these things are devil spawn and make damsel look as placid as guppies, It took me at least a month to get rid of them, trap and stuff didnt work. E mail me and i will tell you how I did it, but depth charges were discussed alot :(
